The Minnesota Vikings picked up a fantastic comeback victory against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1. After being down 22-10 with five minutes left in the third quarter, the Vikings scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to win the game by a 39-22 final score. Quarterback Carson Wentz played a significant role in the Vikings' victory, as he stepped in beautifully after Kyler Murray was forced to exit the game in the first quarter with a concussion.
Due to his marvelous play, Wentz also made some NFL history. According to ESPN Insights, Wentz is now the first reserve to throw three touchdown passes and zero interceptions in a season-opening victory since Fran Tarkenton did back on Sep. 17, 1961. ESPN Insights also noted that Tarkenton accomplished this during the first game in Vikings franchise history, which was also his NFL debut.
This is a great accomplishment for Wentz, and there is no question that he came up clutch for Minnesota with his impressive performance. During the game, he threw three touchdowns, threw for 133 passing yards, and completed 63.2% of his passes. Overall, it was a strong game from the 11-year NFL veteran, and he will now be looking to build off it if he ends up being the Vikings' starting quarterback for their Week 2 game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
