Last season, the Philadelphia 76ers saw VJ Edgecombe emerge as a legitimate future NBA star, showing that their decision to draft him third overall in 2025 was a wise one. He was already playing alongside two All-Stars in Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid, but this offseason, the 76ers added two more for Edgecombe to learn from: Jaylen Brown and LeBron James. Ahead of his sophomore season, Edgecombe was asked what it's been like getting to know his newest teammates, and he had nothing but praise for both of them.
That’s the main thing for me, just learning and getting to know them. They’re all great persons and down to earth. They’re not acting super big time like they are.
They’re really a bunch of humble men, so I'm just glad to be around them," Edgecombe said of Brown and James. However, he suggested that maybe once they're in the locker room more in the future, that might dissipate.
The young 76ers phenom's comments arrive days after Brown, James, and Maxey appeared in photos and video clips showing them getting together for their first time in the gym to work on their skills. Edgecombe should benefit heavily from having two players who have won the NBA Finals MVP and championships. Both are elite players and team leaders, and James has proved over his lengthy career that he's one of the game's all-time best.
As a rookie last season, he averaged 16 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. Edgecombe also shot 43.8% from the field and should continue his growth, perhaps faster than others who have been in the league for a short period of time. Not every young player gets to benefit from that sort of basketball talent.
Edgecombe will have plenty of opportunities to learn from two of the best in the game as they play together with the mutual goal of winning a championship for Philly.
