To say Kirsty Godso’s resume is impressive would be an understatement. Alongside a stint as a Nike Master Trainer, her 15-year career in fitness has seen her partner with athleisure brand Vuori and train clients including Olivia Rodrigo, Hailey Bieber, Maddie Ziegler and Kaia Gerber. During that time, she's also developed her own training philosophy—a strength-Pilates hybrid with “micro-doses” of HIIT known as Pyro—which she now uses with many of her celebrity clients.
Pyro incorporates everything from resistance bands and dumbbells to bodyweight exercises, but its foundations are simple: consistency, repetition, and gradually lifting heavier. I find their goal beyond aesthetics and champion that.” Signature Pyro exercises include the “hot-sauce burpee,” which combines a tuck jump with a traditional burpee; switch climbers, a dynamic variation of the mountain climber that involves jumping between lunge positions; and typewriter planks, where you shuffle horizontally while holding a high plank. However, Godso is quick to point out that Pyro isn't prescriptive.
When working with clients, she adapts sessions to suit the individual—something she previously told Women's Health. It’s about focusing on the specific needs of each client and not getting distracted by the latest and greatest things that the algorithm is serving you.” Preparation is another key part of her philosophy. Godso says she always spends five to 10 minutes before training on foam rolling and activation work to ensure her clients are ready for the session.
Although she deliberately keeps her client roster small, Godso shares many of her workouts through the Pyro app and regularly posts training snippets on Instagram.
