Food prices were 2.7 percent higher in August than a year earlier, while grocery prices remained 2.2 percent higher year-over-year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Similarly, as of June gasoline prices had risen 26.7 percent and electricity prices were 4 percent higher than a year earlier, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
