Remember when Alexa and Carlos PenaVega competed against each other on Dancing With the Stars back in season 21? Well, in case you forgot, they just revisited their time on the show during the October 22 episode of their podcast, LexLos...and they also dredged up some DWTS lore about pros Witney Carson and Mark Ballas. Alexa and Carlos (who were paired with Mark and Witney, respectively) revealed that there was “a lot of drama behind-the-scenes” during the season, with Alexa explaining, “At the time, Witney and Mark were not getting along at all so they refused to be in the same room together, and that was really hard because we’re married.” Why were Witney and Mark (allegedly) feuding back in 2015, you ask?
It might have something to do with their (alleged) fling a year earlier. Before Witney got engaged to her high school sweetheart Carson McAllister in October 2015 and before Mark got engaged to singer BC Jean in November 2015, the two were (reportedly) on a break from their respective relationships...which is when they seemingly had their fling. Neither Mark nor Witney has ever commented on the rumors...but let’s not forget when Mark threw Witney’s 21st birthday party in October 2014, as confirmed by this Instagram post from Jenna Johnson: Or when Mark and Witney performed this Travis Wall contemporary routine together in December 2014 during the DWTS tour, which concluded with a kiss: Or when Mark posted this (since-deleted) Instagram tribute to Witney following their dance set to Smokey Robinson and Aloe Blacc’s “My Girl” duet in September 2014, writing, “Loved dancing with this little one tonight @witneycarson.
I still remember the first time you came to my class a few years ago, you stood out so much and I couldn’t take my eyes off of you.” He continued, “I remember thinking ‘this ones gonna do big things one day’ and here you are doing them. Words seriously cannot express how much love i have for you and how proud I am of you.. It’s an honor and a pleasure to dance with you in my arms....” Well!!
It’s unclear when things went south or when they got back together with their current partners (if they ever were more than just friends), but I thank the PenaVegas for bringing me on this journey all over again.
