The New York Yankees' season came to an embarrassing end when they were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS. This naturally led to plenty of chatter about the possibility of the Yankees firing manager Aaron Boone. Now, a big update has been provided on Boone's future in New York.
According to USA Today's Pete Caldera, Boone will be returning as the Yankees' manager for the 2027 MLB season. Seeing the Yankees bring back Boone might be surprising to some, as New York is continuing to struggle in the playoffs. However, Yankees management is giving Boone another chance as he enters the final season of his contract.
Boone has had plenty of regular season success as the Yankees' manager. In 1,355 games over nine seasons as New York's manager, he has a 790-565 record and has never had a season below .500. Boone has also led the Yankees to the postseason in eight out of his nine seasons as their manager.
However, the Yankees have still not won the World Series championship with Boone in charge. With that and New York losing in the ALDS in back-to-back years, it would have been understandable if they went in a different direction. Yet, Boone is now getting another chance, and he will be looking to help the Yankees win their first World Series championship since 2009 because of it.
