The New York Yankees placed left-handed starting pitcher Ryan Weathers on the 15-day injured list on Sunday with a left forearm flexor strain. The move came one day after Weathers exited with an injury in the fourth inning of the Yankees' game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. In a corresponding move, the Yankees called up right-hander Brendan Beck from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Beck made his MLB debut with the Yankees earlier this season in May. He started in one game and came in as a reliever in the second, giving up a total of seven runs, four home runs and five walks in 6.2 innings. Weathers told reporters his UCL is healthy and that he believes he can still return before the end of the 2026 season.
Weathers suffered a similar injury in June last season with the Miami Marlins. He dealt with a left lat strain that kept him out for four months. According to the New York Post, Weathers said this injury is similar to the one from last season but less severe.
The southpaw will meet with team doctor Christopher Ahmad soon to figure out what the next steps in his recovery process will be. So far this season, Weathers has posted a career-best 3.60 ERA with a career-high 143 strikeouts in 25 starts.
