Bridgerton fans, gather 'round, a new Bridgerton spinoff series is officially on its way! While most of us were seated waiting for updates on the upcoming fifth season of Bridgerton, which, in case you missed it, will focus on Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela (Masali Baduza)'s love story, or updates on the already confirmed sixth season, which will finally adapt Eloise's long-anticipated arc, Shondaland and Netflix flipped it and reversed it and announced a brand-new spinoff series focused on the matriarch of the Bridgerton family, Lady Violet. The newly announced show will be the second-ever spinoff in the franchise adapted from Julia Quinn's novels, following in the footsteps of the prequel spinoff Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
Spanning six episodes and released in 2023, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story became a massive hit for Netflix, amassing millions of views. The series followed the story of a young Queen Charlotte, played by India Amarteifio, while also seeing original Bridgerton cast member Golda Rosheuvel reprising the role, among others. It also starred Corey Mylchreest as young King George and Arsema Thomas as young Lady Danbury.
Suffice it to say, this new spinoff has big shoes to fill, and if you don't want to miss a single detail, we've gathered everything we know so far about the project below. Netflix's newly announced Bridgerton spinoff series will center on Violet Bridgerton. Specifically, and much like Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the project will stand as a prequel show chronicling Violet's life before the events of Bridgerton.
Netflix confirmed to press that “the series will chronicle the early life of a young Lady Violet and tell the story of her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton.” The announcement, of course, arrived with its own spread on Lady Whistledown's society papers, posted to Shondaland's social accounts. The love match that started it all shall soon be yours to see, dear reader.” Fans have gotten a peek at Violet's early life throughout the four seasons of Bridgerton. Parts of her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton are explored in character conversations, with Violet often reminiscing about their story.
Season two of the show featured a critical flashback for the couple, depicting Edmund's death in full. Edmund is played by Rupert Evans in the scene. In the season four finale, we also saw the matriarch confide about her single life to her son Benedict, confessing that she feels he's the most like her before falling for Edmund, which we can now infer was major foreshadowing for the spinoff.
We think so!) At the time of writing, Netflix is yet to unveil an official name for its new spinoff series centered on Lady Violet. For now, the streamer is simply referring to the upcoming release as Untitled Bridgerton Project. But stay tuned in case we hear more.
