Following the Las Vegas Aces series-clinching win over the Indiana Fever on Thursday, tossing them from the WNBA Playoffs for a consecutive year, Aces’ superstar A’ja Wilson was forced to face a load of kaleidoscopic issues that had nothing to do with her team’s move to the next round. Following the controversy involving A’ja’s confrontation with an Indiana fan during Game 2 of the first series, fans and media alike have been stressing their opinions on the matter: half saying the fan did nothing wrong, while the other half siting blame on the Fever fan base. Following the Ace’s Game 3 knock out, Rakes Wilson was seen in the semi-empty stands inside the Michelob ULTRA Arena, holding a hot pink heart-shaped sign with the words “love beats hate” on it.
In the video posted on X, the person taking the video of Rakes Wilson seems to be trying to get a rise out of her when asking her about her sign. The exchange continued while those around him kept repeating the word “love.” “Do you mean that Indiana fans are hateful?” he asked, even though she didn’t allude to that in her words or her sign. After she said that he could keep the camera rolling while pointing at the word “love” on the sign, the man continued.
As those around him began to say he was attempting to instigate Wilson and as she pointed to her sign, the man persisted until Wilson walked away exasperated. On Saturday during the Fever’s exit interviews, a few players talked about the hostility of the Indiana fan base while general manager Amber Cox defended them, saying the attacks from those speaking out “have no basis in reality, and they need to stop.”
