Cotsonika, DeBrincat made it abundantly clear that he loves being a Red Wing and that he wants to stay with the Original Six club because of it. "When a new GM (is announced), I’m sure there’s going to be some conversations, but you know, as of right now, my opinion hasn’t changed," DeBrincat said. "I love playing for the Red Wings.
I love wearing that jersey and battling with those guys out there. My intention is obviously to stay in Detroit. We’ll see what happens, I guess." Hearing that DeBrincat wants to stay with the Red Wings is undoubtedly encouraging news.
He is one of their most important players, so it would be huge if they were able to sign him to a contract extension before next summer. This is especially so with Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin wanting out of Detroit. DeBrincat just had a career year with the Red Wings, as he scored 41 goals and set career highs with 44 assists and 85 points in 82 games.
With this, the 28-year-old winger is due for a significant raise, and it will be intriguing to see if the Red Wings end up being the team that gives it to him. Clearly, he is very interested in getting a deal done with Detroit.
