A GlobalData poll has found that underwriting and risk profiling are the areas of the insurance value chain expected to benefit most from AI. Meanwhile, AXA Hong Kong and Macau has partnered with enterprise technology provider BytePlus to develop and deploy AI solutions across the insurance value chain.
A GlobalData poll conducted across Verdict Media sites in Q3 2026 found that 34.4% of insurance industry insiders believe underwriting and risk profiling will be the area of the insurance value chain most positively impacted by AI. This was followed by customer service (20.4%), claims management (18.3%), and product development (16.1%). The results suggest that many in the industry expect the biggest gains from AI to come in the core work of assessing risk and making underwriting decisions, where better analysis can improve pricing and speed.
The responses also point to strong expectations for AI to help in day-to-day operations, such as handling customer queries and processing claims more quickly and consistently. Against this backdrop, AXA Hong Kong and Macau has signed an agreement with BytePlus to develop and deploy AI solutions across the insurance value chain. The partnership will explore insurance-specific AI models, intelligent agents, and decision support tools across areas including knowledge management, underwriting, claims, and distribution.
AXA also plans to use BytePlus's predictive analytics and consumer persona modelling capabilities to strengthen customer insights and deliver more personalised interactions. In addition, the companies intend to develop an AI-powered "creativity hub" using multimodal and generative AI to support content creation and marketing. The poll findings and AXA's partnership demonstrate how AI adoption in insurance is shifting from experimentation toward practical deployment across the value chain.
While underwriting and risk profiling are viewed as offering the greatest potential, insurers are also applying AI to claims, customer engagement, distribution, and marketing. As these capabilities develop, successful implementation will increasingly depend on insurers combining AI-driven efficiencies with effective governance, human oversight, and strong data management. "AXA partnership highlights increasing AI adoption across the value chain" was originally created and published by Life Insurance International, a GlobalData owned brand.
