The B.B. King Music Company and the legendary blues musician’s estate have announced the development of a new feature documentary celebrating his life, music, influence and legacy. The documentary is currently in develop

King Music Company and the legendary blues musician’s estate have announced the development of a new feature documentary celebrating his life, music, influence and legacy. The documentary is currently in development, with additional announcements regarding the creative team, production, distribution and release plans to follow. The documentary is expected to explore King’s journey from his beginnings in the Mississippi Delta to international superstardom, his groundbreaking career as a guitarist and vocalist, and his profound impact on blues, rock, soul, jazz and popular music.

After a long and storied career, King died in 2015 at the age of 89. The project will have the cooperation and support of the B.B. King Music Company and the Estate of B.B.

King, providing the filmmakers with access to the estate’s resources, archival materials and historical knowledge. Executive produced by Grammy award-winning music and film producer Vassal Benford, the documentary will also be produced in partnership with acclaimed producers Hamid and Camille Torabpour and their production company, Winter State Entertainment, with Leslie Small (“Kevin Hart: Acting My Age,” “Black Comedy in America”) set to direct. Other producers are Lani Evans, Dr.

Mark Smith, Nick Hagen and Sylvester Stewart Jr. Small says, “When I learned I had been chosen to direct this documentary, I sat with the news for a long time before I could put words to what I felt. It wasn’t just excitement.

It was something closer to responsibility — the kind that settles into your chest and doesn’t leave.” Benford, who is also CEO of the B.B. King Music Company and CEO of TBC Group, says, “B.B. King was more than one of the greatest musicians who ever lived.

He was an extraordinary human being whose music crossed every boundary and brought people together. His story deserves to be told with the authenticity, depth and respect that his life and legacy command. I am very excited to be working with Hamid Torabpour and Winter State Entertainment to bring this important documentary to audiences around the world.” Torabpour adds, “B.B.
