Bears Get More Bad QB News as Caleb Williams’ Backup Also Injured

Chicago Bears backup quarterback Tyson Bagent entered the NFL's concussion protocol amid Caleb Williams uncertainty.

The Chicago Bears had a nightmarish outing in this past Sunday's Week 2 loss to the division-rival Minnesota Vikings. After scoring 59 points in Week 1, the Bears mustered just one field goal in Sunday's 9-3 loss in Chicago. More importantly, the team lost star quarterback Caleb Williams to a concerning-looking injury midway through the fourth quarter.

The 24-year-old signal caller was visibly emotional as he was carted off the field. Williams was diagnosed with a hamstring strain and will likely miss time moving forward. Williams was replaced by backup quarterback Tyson Bagent in the closing minutes of Sunday's loss to the Vikings.

Bagent was likely set to start in place of Williams in Week 3, but the fourth-year Chicago QB entered the NFL's concussion protocol on Tuesday. Third-string veteran quarterback Case Keenum will likely get the "Monday Night Football" start against the Philadelphia Eagles if Williams and Bagent are unable to go. Keenum, 38, has not appeared in a regular-season NFL game since 2023 with the Houston Texans.

Whoever takes the field as the Bears quarterback will have a tough task against Philadelphia's secondary in primetime.
