Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson provided an encouraging injury update on starting quarterback Caleb Williams.

The Chicago Bears have been without starting quarterback Caleb Williams since he suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain in a Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears have used multiple quarterbacks over the last two weeks, winning with veteran signal caller Case Keenum against the Philadelphia Eagles and 26-year-old QB Tyson Bagent against the New York Jets. That being said, the team would love to have their franchise quarterback back at the helm as soon as possible.

When speaking to reporters on Friday, head coach Ben Johnson provided a positive update regarding Williams' recovery process. "We got him progressively increasing the amount of running that's going on, and of course the throwing aspect of it is a big part of his position as well," Johnson said, via reporter Chris Emma. "Our guys have a good plan in place and we're just going step by step with that right now." Williams opened up the 2026 NFL season with a masterful performance in a Week 1 win over the Carolina Panthers, throwing for 269 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 65 yards and two more scores with his legs.

He was less impressive in the Bears' rainy Week 2 loss to the Vikings, throwing for just 138 yards and an interception before leaving the field with his injury. The Bears will face off against the Green Bay Packers in Week 5 matchup on Sunday.
