Bears QB Caleb Williams Reveals Unexpected Motivation Behind Falcons Win

Caleb Williams had a surprising source of extra motivation before returning to help the Bears defeat the Falcons.

After missing three games, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams returned to action Sunday and led his team to a 31-23 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Williams didn't disappoint in his return, passing for 305 yards and a touchdown to tight end Colston Loveland. The Bears' starter completed 30 of 36 passes for an efficient overall performance that helped the Bears improve to 4-2 this season.

After the win, Williams spoke to NBC Sports' Maria Taylor on a live video chat about the extra motivation he gave himself heading into his first game since Sept. 20, when he suffered a hamstring tear against the Minnesota Vikings. "I was watching John Wick for this week. A couple of his movies I watched. ...

One of my people reached out to him and he was a fan. Big fan of his, so that was my profile picture. … I’m inevitable. That’s always my mentality every single day that I get to live and breathe," Williams shared.

The Bears star said he was so locked in that he didn't read much into the "John Wick" star reaching out. Reeves has appeared in four movies as the fictional hitman, released from 2014 to 2023.

He reprised his role in a 2025 spin-off film starring Ana de Armas called "From the World of John Wick: Ballerina." Meanwhile, Williams returned to his leading role with the Bears after missing three games with his hamstring injury. His injury last month raised concerns among Bears fans, who have long hoped for a franchise quarterback in Chicago to lead the team to prominence. At 4-2, they remain contenders in the NFC North, where the Minnesota Vikings are still undefeated.

As of this writing, the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers are 3-2. Williams won't have much time to celebrate Sunday's victory before returning to the field. He'll attempt to lead the Bears to a second straight win when they battle the New England Patriots in "Thursday Night Football" on Thursday, Oct. 22.
