Sitting at 3-1 on the year, the Chicago Bears appear to be one of the strongest teams in the NFC at full strength. But according to one CBS analyst, one splash move for a familiar face on defense could push the team over the edge to becoming a true Super Bowl contender. The Bears have proven to be incredibly resilient in light of the absence of star quarterback Caleb Williams each of the last two weeks, coming away with wins over the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets in Weeks 3 and 4.
While it still remains unclear when Williams will ultimately return, the expectation is likely that Williams will at least be back for the back half of the Bears regular season schedule. Former Bears star offensive lineman Kyle Long would like to see the Bears invest on the defensive side of the ball in the meantime. "This is a Bears team that is one move away from being a Super Bowl contender," said Long. "Look, I thought it was gonna be Maxx Crosby. But the Raiders keep winning.
They aren't gonna let that guy out on a Southwest flight because we saw what happened last time. Maybe Khalil Mack, return of the Mack. I'm just saying." More news: Eagles Legendary OT Lane Johnson Announces Retirement On paper, the move certainly makes some sense both for the Bears and for the Chargers.
Edge rushers of the quality of Mack, a nine-time Pro Bowler over the course of his career, are certainly coveted highly by almost any team. And the Chargers may very well be in a position to sell after their 0-4 start to the year. Mack also has obviously familiarity with the Bears organization having played for the team from 2018 to 2021.
Now, the Bears are in a position to contend and potentially make a deep postseason run, which was not the case when he was dealt by the team to the Chargers in 2022. At the very least, it will interesting to see whether the Chargers continue to struggle ahead of the NFL trade deadline. If they ultimately do, we could very well see Mack and many others within the organization on the move to contenders in win-now mode.
