A safety who recently transferred to TCU was allegedly spit on by a player and targeted by teammates before his dismissal.

TCU revealed on Tuesday that the program dismissed Louisiana Tech transfer safety Jacob Fields during training camp for violating team rules. Fields, a senior from Melissa, Texas, was expected to replace Bud Clark, who was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round. Fields earned USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year last season at Louisiana Tech.

He recorded 91 tackles, three interceptions, two touchdowns and five passes defensed. Per Steven Johnson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the dismissal came after a fight between that involved Fields and an offensive player. A source told Johnson that the fight could have been avoided as the coaching staff was made aware of Fields receiving threats from teammates early in camp.

"The source said Fields felt targeted by teammates with insults and threats, including multiple moments when was allegedly spit on by a teammate.

"He reached out multiple times to the coaching staff, but the source said there were no attempts to de-escalate the brewing tension, which ultimately led into the confrontation in the locker room." The source told Johnson that he didn't believe TCU head coach Sonny Dykes understood the "full extent" of the situation regarding Fields and his teammates. The situation doesn't look good for TCU with less than two weeks before its season opener against North Carolina in Dublin, Ireland, on Aug. 29. The coaching staff should have taken more action if they knew Fields was being targeted by multiple teammates.

Letting a problem fester in the locker room could be bad for the team's morale before the regular season even starts. TCU is coming off a 9-4 record overall and a 5-4 record in the Big 12 in 2025. For more on the NCAA, head to Newsweek Sports.
