After mutually terminating his contract with the Anaheim Ducks earlier this week, former New York Rangers star Chris Kreider has picked his next team. The Montreal Canadiens have signed Kreider to a one-year contract for the 2026-27 campaign. The former Rangers forward will have a $2.15 million AAV with the Canadiens and can get up to $3 million in bonuses, as reported by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Kreider landing with the Canadiens is certainly shocking. He was once public enemy number one for Canadiens fans, as he memorably injured Montreal legend Carey Price during the 2014 Eastern Conference Final after sliding into him on a breakaway. Now, over a decade later, Kreider is joining the Canadiens and will be looking to help them take that next step.
He has the potential to be a very good veteran addition to Montreal's roster and should be a strong fit in their top nine. Kreider heading to Montreal also makes sense, though. Canadiens president Jeff Gorton was previously his general manager while with the Rangers and he was also teammates with Montreal head coach Martin St.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how much of an impact Kreider can make after signing this one-year deal with the Habs.
