New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is in the final season of his four-year contract extension with the franchise. As the organization decides on Cashman's future, MLB insider Jon Heyman reported that the long-time Yankees GM will be back with New York next season. Cashman has been the Yankees' GM since 1998.
He has led the team through four World Series championship seasons, including three consecutive titles from 1998-2000. The Yankees dominate MLB with a record 27 World Series titles throughout history. But New York has not won a World Series since 2009, and Yankees fans are eager to get back to those championship days.
Although the Yankees are in the middle of their 17th season without a World Series title, Cashman has led New York through 29 straight winning seasons. That consistency is a big reason why the Yankees will want to extend him even though some fans have expressed wanting to move on from Cashman in hopes of winning the World Series again. And that ain't easy.” Heyman did not report when the Yankees will finalize a deal with Cashman.
For now, New York is focused on catching and passing the Tampa Bay Rays for the American League East division lead. The Yankees are currently four games behind the Rays. If New York can pass Tampa Bay, the Yankees could clinch the No. 1 seed in the AL for the postseason.
If the Yankees remain in second place, New York will have to play in an AL Wild Card Series.
