Tiger Global Management is a New York investment firm run by Chase Coleman III, who trained under Julian Robertson at Tiger Management before launching his own fund. Tiger Global's latest 13F showed the fund opened nine new positions during the quarter, including two major AI names. The largest of them is Cerebras Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:CBRS).
Tiger Global bought 2,999,000 shares worth about $662.78 million, making the AI chipmaker 2.76% of the fund's 13F portfolio. The fund also picked up 674,727 shares of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) worth roughly $391.96 million, or 1.63% of the portfolio, and 285,100 shares of Seagate Technology worth about $275.12 million, or 1.15%. Cerebras Systems is an AI-infrastructure company that makes wafer-scale processors and sells AI computing capacity through its cloud services. Its technology is aimed particularly at AI inference, the process of using a trained AI model to generate an answer, write code, reason through a problem, or respond to a user prompt. Bulls say Cerebras has a technical edge in the part of AI inference where speed matters most.
Its Wafer-Scale Engine places computing and fast SRAM memory across one very large processor. This reduces the amount of data that must move among separate chips and across networking equipment. Traditional GPU systems rely more heavily on high-bandwidth memory and communication among multiple GPUs.
The potential advantage is faster token generation and lower latency, particularly for coding, reasoning, and AI-agent workloads. Cerebras is not necessarily trying to replace Nvidia across the AI market. Nvidia retains major advantages in CUDA software, networking, versatility, and its enormous installed base.
