The Boise State Broncos are set for a matchup against the Western Michigan Broncos this coming Saturday. Both of these teams could be undefeated if they pulled out season-opening upsets over some big-name programs. Boise State fell 34-27 to the then-No. 2 ranked Oregon Ducks in Week 1, while Western Michigan suffered a devastating 13-12 loss to the Michigan Wolverines on what will likely end up as the most controversial call of the 2026 college football season.
Western Michigan thought they pulled off the upset in Ann Arbor, but officials put one more second back on the clock. This gave the Wolverines an opportunity to complete at game-winning Hail Mary, avoiding a season-opening upset at home. Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson made his stance on this controversial call very clear when talking about his upcoming opponent this week.
"They are an undefeated football team, period, end of story," Danielson said. "You watch that game, they absolutely beat Michigan at Michigan. That's what happened." After this narrow victory, Michigan bounced back with wins over Oklahoma and UTEP.
The Wolverines are ranked No. 16 in the nation as they enter this coming weekend's matchup against No. 17 Iowa. Saturday's Boise State-Western Michigan matchup will kick off at 3:30 p.m.
