The Denver Broncos spent the majority of their offseason making in-house moves. Broncos general manager George Paton committed plenty of money to bringing back running backs JK Dobbins and Jaleel McLaughlin, linebackers Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad, and wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey. It’s the other commitments he made that helped bring aboard the biggest fish of the offseason, as he sent first-, third-, and fourth-round picks to the Miami Dolphins for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle: Height: 5' 10”Weight: 185lbsAge: 27Contract: 3yr, $84.75M2025: 16 G, 64 REC, 910 REC YDS, 6 TD The Broncos’ quest for a championship was derailed by an injury to quarterback Bo Nix, which led to an unprepared and undermanned unit led by Jarrett Stidham eventually falling to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship.
It’s safe to say their offseason moves can’t prevent something like that from happening again, but they can lessen the blow should an untimely injury strike. Waddle arrives not just as a legitimate top option in an offense, but someone who is actually better when serving as a complimentary piece. Courtland Sutton and Troy Franklin made for quite the duo last season, but what they didn’t have was the ability to space the field from one another as both primarily served as vertical threats on the outside.
Evan Engram and RJ Harvey were decent, but relatively unremarkable in the famed “Joker” role in the middle of the field for head coach Sean Payton. Waddle can not only be that guy, but he can take the pressure off Sutton and Franklin while using his speed to change what opposing defenses feel comfortable running – completely flipping the offense’s potential. If you’re looking at the box score, you probably won’t be blown away.
