The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed third-year wide receiver Jalen McMillan on injured reserve, sidelining him for at least the next four games. McMillan suffered a knee injury in the first quarter of this past Sunday's Week 3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. It was the same knee that he injured in training camp, causing him to miss the Buccaneers' season-opening loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
This IR decision comes in the wake of the injury for starting quarterback Baker Mayfield, who dislocated his right throwing thumb late in Sunday's loss. He's expected to miss a minimum of three weeks with this injury. Tampa Bay also signed veteran quarterback Brett Rypien to the practice squad on Wednesday, giving the Buccaneers a backup option behind rookie signal caller Jalon Daniels.
McMillan had a strong rookie campaign as a third-round pick for the Buccaneers in 2024, reeling in 37 catches for 461 yards and eight touchdowns. He missed all but four games in 2025 after he suffered a serious neck injury in the preseason. The Buccaneers are 0-3 to open up the 2026 NFL season.
This coming weekend, they'll look to notch their first victory of the year against the Green Bay Packers.
