Jaxson Dart suffered a devastating injury for the New York Giants during the first quarter of "Monday Night Football," limping off the field and eventually back to the locker room. With their star quarterback out of the game, the Giants struggled to get anything going against the Los Angeles Rams, who dominated in a 28-6 home-opening win. It was what the Rams needed after their tough loss in Australia to the San Francisco 49ers, and exactly what the Giants didn't need.
While Dart had left the game walking on his own and didn't need a cart, like Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams recently did, it was still a tough loss for New York. However, running back Cam Skattebo revealed the surprising remark his teammate made to him about his injury situation. I kind of was like, 'Damn,' and he told me what was happening. I'm going to leave that to him and the doctors and stuff. But, you know, I think he'll be alright here in the next few weeks," Skattebo said postgame from the locker room.
Backup Jameis Winston replaced Dart in Monday night's game, but was ineffective on the field. He finished with 111 yards and one interception and was sacked twice without throwing any touchdowns. Making matters worse for the Giants was their inability to get their ground game going.
Skattebo had 12 carries for only 36 yards in a lopsided affair for "Monday Night Football." It was certainly a disappointing injury for a team that looked promising to start the new season. They finally had Skattebo and Malik Nabers back on the field with Dart, after all three experienced injury woes last season. Dart certainly wanted to get back out there to try to help his team win that game, but heeded the doctors' advice in the interest of not further hurting himself.
The good news could be that he'll be back this season, and the Giants still seem they could be contenders if they can find any way to win games without their star QB.
