New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo initiated a scuffle with members of the team's secondary during training camp practice on Wednesday, according to multiple reports from insiders on the scene. Skattebo slid after a reception during 11-on-11 action, nearly taking out multiple Giants defensive backs, according to Pat Leonard of NY Daily News Sports. Greg Newsome and Jevon Holland were not happy, and the conflict escalated between Skattebo and Newsome.
Skattebo reportedly ran over linebacker Zaire Barnes when the defense wasn't hitting earlier this week, as well. Giants head coach John Harbaugh addressed the incident after practice when asked about Skattebo's "infectious" energy. "He got a 15-yard penalty at the end of practice.
It can be infectious the other way, an infectious disease type of thing. We want it to be in a positive way," Harbaugh said. Skattebo is returning to the field for his second NFL season after recovering from the gruesome leg injury he suffered during his rookie campaign.
Before his season-ending injury in Week 8, the former fourth-round draft pick had 410 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns, 207 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. The Giants regular-season schedule will begin with a Week 1 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.
