Cardinals Bench QB Jacoby Brissett During Game vs Cowboys

Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur benched starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett in the third quarter of Sunday's game.

The Arizona Cardinals were not pleased with starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett's performance versus the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, that much is clear. Brissett completed 10-of-23 passes for just 119 yards and one interception during his outing. He was sacked four times, including during his last drive of the game in the third quarter.

Cowboys' Von Miller sacked Brissett for a loss of 16 yards, and that was the final straw for Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur. After that drive, with the Cardinals trailing the Cowboys 17-3, LaFleur opted to bench Brissett and have backup quarterback Gardner Minshew come in to replace him. It was Minshew's season debut and first time playing for the Cardinals in a game.

It ended up being the right move as the Cardinals scored their first touchdown of the game on Minshew's first drive. It was a rushing touchdown, though, as running back Tyler Allgeier ran a whopping 63 yards to score for the Cardinals. Minshew threw a touchdown pass on the next drive in the fourth quarter — a five-yard pass to Allgeier.

He put the Cardinals down just one score, 24-17, in a game that appeared to be out of reach for Arizona with Brissett playing. This is the first time this season LaFleur has benched Brissett for Minshew. After the contrast of their performances on Sunday, this is a move LaFleur should consider making in future games.

Maybe Minshew will start against the Seattle Seahawks next Sunday instead of Brissett. This is a conversation to keep an eye out for as the week progresses, especially if Minshew pulls of a come back win over the Cowboys. Ahead of Sunday's game, Brissett completed 64.9% of his passes for 1,600 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions.

He'd also been sacked 15 times.
