Tyreek Hill could potentially be a Kansas City Chief once again this season. The wide receiver has been out for a year as he recovers from a knee dislocation and multiple torn ligaments. He was released by the Miami Dolphins in February amidst the various injuries.
His recovery process seems to be going well as Hill is expected to make a November return to the field, but with a new team. That team could reportedly be the Chiefs, where he spent the 2016–21 seasons before parting with some bad blood from the Chiefs in March 2022. Kansas City's apparently been interested in bringing Hill back, but Sunday's loss of two wide receivers from the game—Rashee Rice with a hamstring injury and Tyquan Thornton with a dislocated ankle—increased the interest in Hill.
Hill himself sparked discussion on X when he posted "hm" after the Chiefs' win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Fans figured this meant Hill was talking with the Chiefs. And, it sounds like they have spoken, Hill's agent Drew Rosenhaus told The Athletic's Michael Silver.
Silver spoke to various Chiefs stars in the locker room about the possible reunion with Hill, and everyone seemed "all in" for the receiver to be back in Kansas City, even with a different squad than he's used to. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce played with Hill throughout all his previous seasons with the Chiefs, and it sounds like they really want him back. He’s one of those people who, when he sets his mind to something, he usually delivers.
You saw that with Miami, when all the haters were saying he couldn’t play and he went and had his best year. I’d be excited by what he could do.” Defensive tackle Chris Jones was drafted by the Chiefs alongside Hill in 2016, and said “I hope we do" sign the receiver. If Hill returns to Kansas City this season, don't expect to see the prime receiver fans have fond memories of when he was with the Chiefs before.
The last two seasons were rougher for Hill as he dealt with injuries and unreliable quarterbacks in Miami. His best seasons statistically did come with the Dolphins in 2022 and '23, respectively, as he tallied over 1,700 yards in both of those years. But, maybe Hill will fit right back in with his former teammates as he could quickly become a star target for Mahomes once again.
