Clayton Kershaw got a chance to meet the Los Angeles Dodgers' newest ace, Tarik Skubal, before the Dodgers traded for him at this season's deadline. Kershaw and Skubal met while representing Team USA at the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Although Skubal's stint with Team USA was brief as he returned to the Detroit Tigers after one start, he left a strong impression on Kershaw.
As Skubal aims to go down as another one of the all-time greats, the two-time Cy Young Award winner took the opportunity to ask Kershaw questions about his career. I want to accomplish all the same things he’s been able to accomplish. I’ll probably keep most of what we talked about between me and him, but as far as the questions that I asked, they were very much [about] how to be great, how to be like him.” Skubal may not be with the Dodgers past this season.
He will be a free agent at the end of the season and has already expressed a desire to return to the Tigers. But a World Series championship is one feat Skubal has yet to accomplish. Playing for the defending back-to-back World Series champions this season puts Skubal in a great position to check that box in October.
