The Washington Commanders have more injuries woes after Week 3. The Commanders entered Sunday's contest against the Seattle Seahawks seeking their first win of the season. Washington was without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels, who suffered an elbow injury in the Commanders' loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2.
It's unclear when Daniels will return, as he prepares to play with a brace this season. Washington earned its first win of the season with a 33-31 upset of the Seahawks on Sunday, but the defense suffered a serious injury blow. The good news is that Chenal is expected to make a full recovery and has feeling in all his extremities. "Commanders LB Leo Chenal, who was taken off the field with a scary-looking injury on Sunday, will undergo season-ending surgery this morning for a fracture in his neck, per sources," Schultz posted on X. "Most importantly, Chenal has feeling in all his extremities, and the expectation is that he’ll make a full recovery." Chenal, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, appeared in three games and made two starts this season.
He signed a three-year, $24.75 million contract with the Commanders in free agency in March. Following Sunday's game, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn called Chenal a "great teammate." “But, we’re definitely thinking of him. He’s a great teammate," Quinn said of Chenal, via USA Today.
So, you know, anytime a guy gets banged up like that, and you’re just thinking of him in full form as much as you can.” Chenal recorded 18 tackles through the first three weeks of the season.
