Cowboys Get Encouraging CeeDee Lamb Injury Update After 'TNF' Loss

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb left Thursday's 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a quad injury.

After suffering a surprising 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Dallas Cowboys left Thursday night facing a potential CeeDee Lamb problem. The star wide receiver exited early with a quad injury and was seen limping back to the locker room. Lamb followed a 17-catch, 189-yard outburst against the Houston Texans with just two receptions for nine yards in the Week 5 letdown.

Lamb at least appears to have avoided a significant injury. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Lamb has a quad bruise that is "not considered to be serious." Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer told reporters after the game that Lamb got hit on the same squad during their Week 4 win. The injury got "pretty painful" for the 27-year-old on Thursday night.

Losing Lamb for any duration of time would be a big blow for the Cowboys. He's on track for his sixth straight Pro Bowl nod with 39 catches for 507 yards and four touchdowns through five games. Lamb has more first-down receptions (28) than any NFL pass catcher and hasn't dropped any of his 51 targets.

Nearly half of Dak Prescott's throws have gone to Lamb or George Pickens, so the Cowboys would need someone to step up if the 2020 first-round pick can't play. Pickens shouldered most of Lamb's workload by catching nine of 13 targets for 130 yards and a touchdown on Thursday. Yet Ryan Flournoy delivered a season-high 90 yards on his three grabs.

Even a short-term injury would be poor timing, as the Cowboys end October with two primetime road matchups. They'll play the Green Bay Packers next Sunday night before a pivotal Week 7 showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles on "Monday Night Football."
