CeeDee Lamb on Verge of Making Major Cowboys History Against Buccaneers

Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is on the verge of joining an exclusive group of Dallas Cowboys players in franchise history.

The Dallas Cowboys are putting up impressive numbers to start their season, courtesy of star quarterback Dak Prescott and his top target, CeeDee Lamb. Lamb has been among the most productive receivers this season, recently helping his team even their record at 2-2 in Sunday's 34-30 win over the Houston Texans. In that game, Lamb had 17 receptions for a whopping 189 yards and a touchdown, adding to his season stats.

Dallas now has a short turnaround, as they'll host the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers in "Thursday Night Football" on Prime. And in that game, Lamb could join an exclusive group of players in Cowboys franchise history. More news: 49ers’ Kyle Juszczyk Reaps Unexpected Benefit From Double NFL Fines According to ESPN Insights, Lamb could join former players Amari Cooper and Frank Clarke as the only players in Cowboys franchise history to record at least 500 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns through the team's first five games of a season.

It seems like a very achievable milestone, as Lamb has already racked up 498 receiving yards in four games, so adding two more yards on a catch shouldn't be an issue. However, he'll also need to find the end zone tonight to reach five touchdowns. The Cowboys selected Lamb at No. 17 in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma, and he's been a significant addition to the receiving corps.

Having Prescott throwing him the ball has also helped, whereas he might not have flourished with another quarterback. Lamb is currently on pace to have his sixth straight season with 1,000 or more receiving yards, and after missing last year's postseason, the Cowboys are a team that could contend for the NFC East amid the Philadelphia Eagles' struggles. Dallas enters Thursday's matchup as a heavy favorite, since they're facing a Tampa Bay team that has struggled mightily and will start a rookie backup quarterback amid Baker Mayfield's injury recovery.

The Cowboys can improve to 3-2 with a win, and it could also be a historic night for Lamb with the franchise. More news: Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith Draws Randy Moss Comparison From Steve Sarkisian For more about the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL, visit Newsweek Sports.
