Cristina Etcheberry is helping businesses across Latin America collect recurring payments without friction. Toku, a platform she co-founded in 2020, handles about $8 billion annually for more than 500 corporate customers, including Chevrolet and major insurers like Zurich and MetLife. Toku aims to free businesses from chasing missed bills and matching payment records across disconnected banking systems.
Like technology, the Santiago, Chile native moves fast, decamping to Mexico City less than a week after deciding Toku would enter the country. In 2025, it raised $48 million in a Series A, the largest ever for a woman-led startup in the region, and Etcheberry has big plans for the platform’s future. In March, Toku launched an AI agent that not only chases payments over WhatsApp, email, or voice, but can also arrange repayment plans—which the company says has reduced unrecoverable debts by up to half.
