After Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys suffered a rough loss at home to the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers on "Thursday Night Football," fans and others associated with the team were clearly disappointed. A stadium employee expressed disappointment to Prescott after the game, calling the performance "embarrassing" as the Cowboys quarterback walked past him to the locker room in the stadium. A video of the interaction went viral, and Prescott discussed it in his postgame remarks.
"You know, when he said it, I just looked at him, and at that point, he looked away, and when I turned my head back, he said something else. And so that's the part: as just a man or as a person, you feel free to speak your mind; just don't coward away from the reaction that you're gonna get," Prescott said at his media session. If you're saying it to me, say it to me. Don't go back on it," he told reporters. "Hate that it's even being talked about to be honest with you." Many critics felt it was an embarrassing night for the Cowboys as Prescott and company fell to a team playing their undrafted rookie quarterback, Jalon Daniels, in just his second NFL start.
Daniels finished with 189 yards and a touchdown pass in the win, along with a 76% completion rate and a passer rating of 110 to shine under the spotlight in Dallas. On the other side, Prescott was often pressured by the Buccaneers' defense, forcing hurried throws that hit the ground, sailed over his receivers' heads, or, even worse, were picked off by defenders. The Cowboys quarterback completed 24 of 42 passes for 316 yards and one touchdown to teammate George Pickens.
Prescott also threw two interceptions in the 24-16 loss, which dropped them to 2-3. Javonte Williams and the Cowboys' running backs couldn't get anything going on the ground. Dallas finished with 50 rushing yards in the game.
CeeDee Lamb also sat out the late part of the game with what was reported as a quad injury during the Amazon Prime broadcast. They're nowhere near out of the race for the NFC East, but they're certainly struggling, and something will need to change. They next face the Green Bay Packers in NBC's "Sunday Night Football" on Sunday, Oct. 18 with a chance to even their record again.
