Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson was asked about game planning with an immobile quarterback at the helm after his Case Keenum-led team beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Johnson, the former offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, fired a friendly jab at Jared Goff in his response. "Well I've got a little history with that, of calling plays for someone not so mobile.
Now I don't have a history with someone that is not a No. 1 pick though. That was apparently a big deal," Johnson said. Goff said Johnson called him after this statement went viral, making sure he knew there was no ill intent.
In the wake of this media moment, Lions head coach Dan Campbell was asked if he views Goff's lack of mobility as a hinderence. Goff's game is cerebral," he said, via reporter Brad Galli. "That's his game, and he's [expletive] good at it.
We run the offense we run, and we're good at it because of Jared Goff." Goff already has 802 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns and zero interceptions through the first three games of the Lions' 2026 campaign. Detroit is 2-1 to begin the season, suffering their only loss against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. Goff and the Lions will face off against the Carolina Panthers in a primetime "Sunday Night Football" matchup this coming weekend.
