Danny Kanell doesn't understand why this team is placed low in the first College Football Playoff Rankings.

Danny Kanell believes one team was completely disrespected in the first College Football Playoff (rankings) of the 2026 season. On "College Sports on SiriusXM," Kanell said that Wake Forest should have received more love from the CFP committee. The Demon Deacons are currently 7-1 and 5-1 in the ACC.

"Wake Forest, I thought, was the most disrespected team by the committee last night," Kanell said on Wednesday. Wake Forest is ranked No. 16, two spots lower than where the team is ranked in the AP Top 25 poll. Kanell then pointed out some of the Wake Forest players and what they've done this year.

"Did they not notice that Gio Lopez has 18 touchdowns and one interception on the season?" Kanell asked. "Did they not notice that Carlos Hernandez, the wide receiver, is No. 8 in the country in yards and No. 7 in yards per game? He's a dynamic player, too.

They have dynamic playmakers. Why didn't the committee reference that?" Kanell then said Wake Forest is going to be "fighting an uphill battle" because of its schedule, something that the committee referenced. While the Demon Deacons lost to No. 1 Miami, they beat Louisville, a team that was ranked No. 16 at the time.

It will be interesting to see if Wake Forest can finish the season with 10 or 11 wins. The team's final four opponents this season are Merrimack, SMU, Georgia Tech, and defending ACC champion Duke. The last time Wake Forest won double-digit games was in 2021, when the team finished 11-3 and lost to Pittsburgh in the ACC Championship.
