Colorado came out of last weekend with one of the more embarrassing defeats in college football, suffering a blowout 41-7 loss to Northwestern. The game was expected to be close, with the Wildcats pegged as narrow 3.5-point home favorites coming in. But nobody saw the Buffaloes losing by more than 30 points and finding the end zone just once.
Head coach Deion Sanders said after the game that he found players laughing and not showing the competitive fire he's made the standard in Boulder. He took drastic action on Tuesday, telling reporters that some players have been booted off the team as a result of the loss and how they reacted to it. "There are a few guys that are not on the team anymore, so you know," Sanders said bluntly.

After taking the program to new heights in 2024 with his son Shedeur Sanders at quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter dominating on both sides of the ball en route to a 9-4 record, the team collapsed under Coach Prime last season. Colorado fell to 3-9, suffering bad double-digit losses to several Big 12 rivals, including Houston, TCU, Utah, Arizona, Arizona State, and West Virginia.
What's worse is that it looked like they were going to come back strong this season, opening with a 14-13 upset over Georgia Tech in Atlanta, followed by a commanding 52-21 win over Weber State in their home opener. But the loss to Northwestern was really bad, and it apparently cost a few players their spots on the roster. The Buffaloes head to Waco on Saturday to face Baylor before ranked matchups against No. 11 Texas Tech and No. 15 Utah. Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Arizona State, Houston, Cincinnati and UCF follow, with half of those games coming on the road.
