The Los Angeles Dodgers will have to finish out the last leg of regular season without All-Star center fielder Andy Pages. After Tommy Edman hit a walk off single in the 10th inning in the Dodgers' 5-4 victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Dodgers learned Pages would be out for 4-5 weeks with a hand fracture. Earlier in the game, in the third inning, Pirates right-hander Bubba Chandler hit Pages with a 100.2 mph sinker.
Pages stayed in the game for one more inning in center field. But he did not hit again, and Kiké Hernández replaced him in the outfield by the fifth inning. "I would expect him back, knowing him, on the earlier side," manager Dave Roberts said to reporters.
"There's still time in the season for him to be back. But I feel for him because he was having such a good year and he likes to play. But yeah, we've got to move on and hold down the fort until he's back.” Losing Pages is a big blow to the Dodgers' outfield.
Roberts will need to find a replacement who can finish out the remainder of the regular season in Pages' spot. "You've got to be mindful of the defense, certainly in center field. Somebody that can handle center field," Roberts said.
"We'll piece it together. I'm not sure right now, but I do think that the main thing is locking down center field." Hernández replaced Pages for the remainder of the game. The Dodgers also have Alex Call as an option, and Los Angeles reportedly called up outfielder Alek Thomas for another option.
