President Donald Trump’s approval rating among Hispanic Americans has climbed this summer, raising the question of whether he is beginning to rebuild a key part of the coalition that helped power his 2024 victory. The most recent polling data from The Economist and YouGov, taken August 21-28 found that 36 percent of Hispanic voters approved of how Trump is handling his job. It is a 13-point increase from May 22-26, when 23 percent approved of the president’s job performance, according to polling.
It is a further 5-point increase from polling data recorded July 25-27, when 31 percent of Hispanic voters approved of the president. The number was slightly higher, 34 percent, in poll data taken June 26-29. However, while the month of August represented gains for the president, the majority of Hispanic voters disapprove of his performance.
As of late August, 59 percent of Hispanic voters disapproved of Trump, with the figure higher in July and June, at 65 percent and 63 percent, respectively. Taken together, the data shows that Trump’s approval rating among Hispanics has been one of the largest improvements among the major demographic groups tracked in the Economist/YouGov surveys over that period, a gain that could prove influential for the GOP in the November midterm elections. Key to Trump’s successful bid for reelection in 2024 was his improved performance with Hispanic voters, who moved significantly toward Republicans compared with recent presidential cycles.
That shift helped broaden Trump's coalition beyond his traditional base and contributed to his national victory. Since taking office in January 2025, however, Trump's overall approval rating has remained underwater nationally. Polling has continually showed lost ground with demographic groups that were key to his success in 2024, including young people.
The president’s approval rating has fallen to -44 among voters aged 18 to 34, an all-time low for him in that age group, according to Echelon Insights polling. The president’s popularity differs across the country. According to Civiqs' online polling, as of late August, Trump has the highest net approval rating in Wyoming, where 56 percent of voters approve of his performance and 35 percent disapprove.
The president’s weakest numbers can be found in Democratic strongholds. His approval rating is weakest in Hawaii, where 18 percent approve of his job performance, and 81 percent disapprove. Trump is also underwater in all seven of the battleground states that he won in 2024.
