President Donald Trump’s standing with women has deteriorated as voters prepare to decide control of Congress in November, according to national polling data. GOP candidates must persuade women that the administration is improving household finances while Democrats seek to turn frustration over living costs into votes. Matthews, a pollster at Bellwether Research and Consulting who has worked for Republican clients, told Newsweek that women moving away from Trump include independents, Republican-leaning women and those who supported him in 2024 because of inflation and the cost of living. Midterm elections often test whether a president’s supporters remain motivated once control of Congress is at stake.
Matthews said Democratic women are showing greater enthusiasm about voting than Republican women, potentially altering the usual turnout dynamic in which younger, unmarried voters are harder for Democrats to mobilize. ActiVote’s monthly presidential approval tracker shows a clear deterioration in Trump’s standing among female voters over three successive surveys. In June, 41 percent of women approved of his performance and 57 percent disapproved, producing a net rating of minus 16.
The poll was published July 2 after collecting responses from 478 registered voters between June 1 and June 30, with a median field date of June 16 and an average expected error of 4.5 percentage points. July’s numbers moved further against him. Approval stood at 38 percent and disapproval at 57 percent, leaving Trump at minus 19 with women.

The latest poll, published September 1, placed Trump at 34 percent approval and 64 percent disapproval among women.

ActiVote uses that term rather than reporting a conventional margin of error. Subgroup estimates normally carry greater uncertainty than results based on a poll’s full sample.
