The Golden State Warriors selected former Michigan Wolverines standout Yaxel Lendeborg with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2026 NBA draft. And as the rookie approaches his regular-season debut with the Warriors, Golden State veteran Draymon Green has high expectations. During the most recent episode of his podcast, Green said he expects Lendeborg to become the eventual new face of the Warriors franchise.
The four-time NBA champion believes the first step of that process comes with his new teammate claiming the 2026-27 NBA Rookie of the Year trophy. "The Golden State Warriors has found the next face of the franchise," Green said while speaking with NBA reporter Taylor Rooks. "We're gonna talk Rookie of the Year next, that's my pick." Lendeborg impressed in his three preseason appearances with the Warriors.
He recorded 23 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in his debut against the Sacramento Kings, and ended his preseason campaign with a 17-point, four-rebound, five-assist performance against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Warriors will open up their 2026-27 regular-season schedule with a matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.
