After winning the NCAA Tournament in 2025, Florida men's basketball head coach Todd Golden has reportedly received his third raise in three years. He signed an additional one-year extension that makes the total value of his contract worth $49.5 million. The average annual value of his contract is $8.25 million, and the deal spans through the 2031-32 season, according to ESPN.
His salary for next season will increase from $6 million to $7.5 million. The contract makes Golden the highest-paid head coach in Florida program history and the second-highest-paid basketball coach in the SEC. Only Kansas coach Bill Self, UConn coach Dan Hurley and Arkansas coach John Calipari are slated to make more than Golden next season.
New North Carolina coach Michael Malone also is set to earn $7.5 million. According to ESPN, Golden's buyout to leave for the NBA would cost $3 million next season. Then, it would decrease to $2 million the following season and $1 million during the 2029-30 season.
If Golden wanted to leave Florida for another collegiate program, the buyout would be much more expensive. According to ESPN, the buyout would cost $13 million in 2027-28, then $5 million in 2028-29, then $3 million in 2029-30, $2 million in 2030-31 and finally $1 million in 2031-32. For now, Golden is staying with the Gators.
Florida will open the 2026-27 season against Miami on Nov. 2.
