On Friday, Fontaines will release their much-anticipated new album Dopamine Chamber, and it includes the first-ever featured guest on one of their records. The fact that they chose to work with Rosalía, and that Rosalía chose to work with them, is one of those beautiful cases of two cool entities finding common ground. The track is out now, just a couple of days after Rosalía's SNL performance.
Thus far, Fontaines D.C. have shared the Dopamine Chamber singles "Marianne" and "Tongue," and they've debuted a few other new songs at live shows. When the band unveiled the LP's tracklist last month, the presence of a Rosalía feature immediately stood out. "Where Is Gone?," their song with Rosalía leaked over the weekend, as the track was available on white-label 7" singles at listening events for the album.
As it turns out, "Where Is Gone? is a big, dramatic, string-laden ballad with real Bond-theme vibes. Grian Chatten and Rosalía's voices contrast sharply with one another, and it's interesting to hear them coming together over echoing guitars and sweeping orchestral crescendos that carry at least some echo of the sound of Rosalía's stunning 2025 album LUX. Both of them, it's probably worth noting, sing in English.
There's a long history of anti-colonialist solidarity between Ireland and Catalonia. Right now, that seems to take the form of Dublin rock bands loving Rosalía. U2 have a song about her on their upcoming album Carnaval de Luz, and she seems tickled about it.
In a press release, Fontaines member Carlos O’Connell says: I’ve been a fan of Rosalía since her debut album, which was absolutely beautiful. What really excited me was how she was keeping a Spanish tradition of music alive, which in a spiritual way felt akin to what we’ve tried to do with Irish music. For someone with roots in both countries, it’s been beautiful to see.
She’s an artist who’s blown me away at every stage since. Fontaines D.C. also recently announced a huge 2027 North American tour, with Westside Cowboy opening one leg and Iceage opening the other. Below, check out "Where Is Gone?" and their tour dates.
