Forza Horizon 6 is one of the best and most popular games of the year. Developer Playground Games released its latest racing game on Xbox and PC in May to strong critical and commercial reception. After months of rumors, we finally have official confirmation that Forza Horizon 6 has been delayed on PlayStation 5 to 2027.
Playground Games' racing game is now set for a January release on PS5. It was previously scheduled for sometime in 2026. The reveal comes shortly after Forza Horizon 6 developer Playground Games denied that the port was being delayed.
The studio recently apologized on X for its lack of communication about content updates and fixes. On Thursday, Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed a Jan. 26, 2027 release date for Forza Horizon 6. The Forza Horizon series has quietly become one of the best-selling game franchises in recent memory.
A recent report by Alinea Analytics estimated that even before launching on PlayStation, Forza Horizon 6 has already sold more than 7.4 million copies and generated an estimated $534.3 million in revenue. The game was released on Windows PC and Xbox Series X on May 19 to stellar reviews. In 2021, Microsoft said that Forza Horizon 5 had the biggest launch in Xbox history, with more than 10 million players in its first week.
The Microsoft-published game has been similarly successful on PS5, selling over five million copies in 2025 when it was released on the platform years later. While it’s clear PlayStation owners won’t have to wait that long for Forza Horizon 6 to debut on the system, the Xbox/PC exclusivity window will still be longer thanpromised. When Playground Games originally announced Forza Horizon 6's release date, it said the PS5 version would launch later in 2026.
The lack of communication around the port coincided with the struggling Xbox division’s major “reset,” which has led to thousands of job cuts and the sale of several studios. As part of Xbox’s shift, the company seems to be de-prioritizing launching its games on PlayStation. Xbox recently released Halo: Campaign Evolved on PlayStation and reportedly planned to do the same with Gears of War: E-Day, but allegedly canceled the port behind closed doors.
