The San Francisco 49ers had a surprising start to their season, shocking a Los Angeles Rams team that entered the game and season as heavy favorites to win the 2027 Super Bowl. However, San Francisco defeated them in Melbourne, Australia, 27-7, to claim a huge season-opening win over a division rival and start the season 1-0. Brock Purdy was a big reason for the win, completing 25 of 34 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns.
Following the game, his teammate, Fred Warner, appeared live on ESPN's "SportsCenter" and praised his quarterback for the performance. "Brock Purdy had the best camp that I've seen him have," Warner explained to ESPN's Scott Van Pelt. "In my mind, he's always been the best quarterback in the entire league.

He explained that by "good camp," he meant Purdy had "complete control of the offense" throughout training camp. "His awareness, his ability to process information at the highest speed, is unreal. So, he's the best," Warner told Van Pelt.
In addition to his strong passing performance, Purdy showed his mobility, rushing for 29 yards and three first downs during Thursday night's win. Last season, Purdy was limited by injuries, including a severe turf toe injury, playing in just nine games for the 49ers. However, he was 7-2 in those games and threw for 2,167 passing yards and 20 touchdowns. 49ers fans have to love what they saw on Thursday night.
It might lead some people to believe that if Purdy remains healthy, this team has serious potential to replicate its 2023 success, when it went 12-5, won the division, and reached Super Bowl LVIII. Warner's strong statement on Purdy arrives after last season's NFL Most Valuable Player, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, struggled in Thursday's game, completing 15 of 25 passes for just 155 yards and an interception. Purdy and the 49ers are back on the field on Sunday, Sept. 20, to host the Miami Dolphins, who many have predicted will be among the worst teams in the NFL this season.
