Shanghai Ravioli Corporation is recalling approximately 24,900 pounds of frozen Buffalo chicken products after federal officials discovered they were produced without the benefit of inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Wednesday. The class I recall affects frozen, not-ready-to-eat products including “BUFFALO CHICKEN RANGOON” and “BENEDETTO’S BUFFALO CHICKEN MOZZARELLA STICK.” The products were produced between July 8, 2025, and June 29, 2026, and carry “Sell By” dates ranging from July 8, 2026, through June 29, 2027, FSIS says.
The affected products were packaged in cardboard boxes containing 100 pieces of Buffalo Chicken Rangoons or 120 pieces of Buffalo Chicken Mozzarella Sticks. Numerous public health alerts and recalls have been issued this year due to potential damage, foodborne illness, contamination and undeclared food allergens. Recently, more than 1,600 pounds of ready-to-eat pickled chicken and goat products have been recalled nationwide after the products were made without required federal inspection, officials determined.
The FSIS describes a Class I recall as involving a health hazard situation "where there is a reasonable probability that use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death." Newsweek reached out to the company and FSIS via email on Thursday for additional information. According to FSIS, the products bear a false mark of inspection using establishment number “EST. 18004.” The establishment does not have a federal grant of inspection. FSIS said the issue was discovered during its surveillance activities.
The recalled products were shipped to foodservice locations in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. FSIS warned that food produced without inspection may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria or other contaminants that could pose a risk to consumers. The agency said it is concerned that some of the recalled products could still be in foodservice refrigerators or freezers.
No confirmed illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled products. FSIS is urging foodservice locations that purchased the products not to serve them and to either throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. Consumers with concerns about a potential illness or injury are advised to contact a healthcare provider, FSIS says.
Blueberry recall:The FDA has issued its highest-risk classification for recalled GreenWise organic frozen blueberries and whole mixed berries sold at Publix over potential E. coli contamination. The recall is linked to a multistate outbreak that has sickened 12 people in Florida and Georgia, with four hospitalizations. The affected products were sold in eight states, and consumers are urged to throw them away or return them to the original place of purchase.
