The New York Giants came into "Monday Night Football" hot off their season-opening home win against the Dallas Cowboys and were hit early by what appeared to be a tough injury to their star quarterback. While Jaxson Dart seemed off to a great start in the first quarter, he was sandwiched between Los Angeles Rams defenders Josaiah Stewart and Byron Young. Dart's leg bent awkwardly, and he remained on the ground.
The game stopped, and ABC/ESPN went to a commercial break while Giants staff checked on Dart for a while. Dart went to the blue medical tent for a while before another update arrived. Fortunately, he walked off on his own, but was certainly hobbling as he headed back to the locker room with staff.
Sideline reporter Laura Rutledge later shared that Dart didn't go to the room players typically go to for imaging to check on injuries, but that didn't mean he wouldn't go there eventually. Backup Jameis Winston replaced Dart while he was being checked out, but the veteran QB couldn't get much going in several appearances.
Things may have become worse for the Giants from there. Wide receiver Malik Nabers, who had finally returned from an injury that sidelined him for most of last season, was visibly in pain after suffering an apparent arm injury during the first half. A video circulating on X after Dart left the game showed a member of head coach John Harbaugh's staff seeming to tell him that Dart would be out for four to six weeks, but it's unclear whether that will be his injury status.
The Giants had an injury-plagued season last year, with Cam Skattebo and Nabers both lost for most of the season, and things seemed on the right track as they began this new campaign. Some suggested they could be serious contenders in the NFC East, but now it seems they've suffered some brutal misfortune in Week 2. As of this writing, the Rams led 14-0 as they looked to bounce back from their season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Australia.
