Giants’ JJ McCarthy Makes Feelings Clear on Eagles QB Joe Milton

Giants quarterback JJ McCarthy reacted to the announcement of Joe Milton as the Eagles' starting quarterback.

The New York Giants made a major move to add another quarterback to their roster, bringing in former Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy to try to help them after Jaxson Dart's injury earlier in the season. McCarthy made his first start of the season on Oct. 25, against the Houston Texans, leading the Giants to a 27-21 victory. They've remained atop the NFC East and will now face what some believe could be a crucial division matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Much like the Giants were hit with quarterback issues, the same befell the Eagles. Several weeks ago, it was announced that starter Jalen Hurts had received a diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis in his leg and a bilateral pulmonary emboli in his lungs. That resulted in backup Tanner McKee becoming the starter, but his time in that role has been abruptly ended after the team suffered its sixth straight loss of the season.

Joe Milton III will take over the starting role, and he's someone McCarthy is quite familiar with. More news: Eagles Legend Makes Bold Prediction for NFL Season After Commanders Loss "J Millie, I love that guy. Definitely super proud of him for this opportunity.

You know, he's got a big arm, obviously uber-talented, could run, but at the end of the day, you know, it's about us," McCarthy told reporters on Wednesday. "I'm really excited to see our defense go out there in that environment when crowd noise isn't as loud and them having full, optimal communication out there," he said, adding, "I love [Milton], but this weekend, it's go time." Milton and McCarthy were teammates briefly at the University of Michigan. Milton played for the Wolverines from 2018 to 2020 and was there for about two weeks when McCarthy arrived as a freshman.

Milton then entered the transfer portal and joined the University of Tennessee, where he played his final seasons of college football. Meanwhile, McCarthy went on to win a national championship at Michigan in 2024 and then went No. 10 to the Vikings in the NFL Draft. They'll now face off in a major showdown of NFC East rivals.

Philadelphia is looking to turn around their season amid a horrible losing skid, while the Giants are looking to maintain control of their division lead. Despite being away from home, the Giants are currently 3.5-point favorites to win, with the matchup set for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 8, at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field.
