New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson returned to practice Wednesday, a major step toward his NFL debut. The No. 8 overall pick in April's draft has been out since Aug. 13, when he strained his hamstring in a joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he missed the New Orleans' first seven games. The Saints placed him on injured reserve with a designation to return and have now opened his 21-day activation window, which runs through Nov. 25.
A Grade 2 strain was initially expected to sideline him for about two months, but it's already been closer to three. But even with the rookie wideout behind on his recovery and only just returning to practice, he's already drawing high praise from his quarterback, Tyler Shough. I mean, he looked clean, he looked really good, he looks healthy.
I think, obviously, there's a lot of logistics that you got to work through. That's not my concern or job. [But] When he gets the ball in his hands, he's different," Shough said. "My main goal is to make sure he knows what he's doing, and I know that's his main goal too.
So I think just getting him back slowly and surely is what we're going to be focused on." As a freshman at Colorado, he posted 470 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 22 catches, averaging 21.4 yards per catch. Health, however, has been the biggest question mark surrounding Tyson, with four hamstring injuries since 2025, a broken collarbone in 2024, and a torn ACL, MCL, and PCL as a freshman.

Shough already has 1,721 passing yards and 13 touchdowns through seven games, with a 90.9 passer rating. He also has the Saints offense converting 95.5% of its red-zone trips, fourth in the league.
But it's had to lean heavily on Chris Olave, who has 636 receiving yards on 49 catches and 71 targets, and the run game has struggled. Adding a second dynamic receiver should help, especially with Tyson at his best in the middle of the field. New Orleans is 2-5 and coming off a bye, with the Cleveland Browns visiting the Superdome on Sunday.
