The New York Giants just traded one of their top offseason acquisitions four months after signing him in free agency. Newsday’s Evan Barnes reported on Wednesday morning that the Giants were trading offensive lineman Daniel Faalele to the NFC South in exchange for draft capital. Faalele signed a one-year deal with the Giants in April and was expected to be the team's starting right guard.
However, his tenure in New York ends without having played even one snap. The 26-year-old was Baltimore’s starting right guard the last two seasons, playing 2,118 snaps during that time and allowing 62 pressures, 51 hurries, six QB hits, and five sacks, according to Pro Football Focus. In Jacksonville, Faalele could see immediate playing time at multiple positions.
The Jags are down both their right guard, Patrick Mekari, who had back surgery and could miss the first few games of the regular season, and right tackle, Cole Van Lanen, who’s on the PUP list because of a knee issue. Depth lineman Walker Little, Chuma Edoga, and rookie third-round pick Emmanuel Pregnon have all missed time during training camp as well. Faalele is expected to immediately plug right in on the right side of Jacksonville’s O-line.
