JJ McCarthy entered the game for his first extended period of quarterback reps late in Sunday's Week 6 loss to the New Orleans Saints. McCarthy stepped in for the New York Giants after starting quarterback Jameis Winston threw his second interception of the game early in the fourth quarter. The recent trade acquisition then led the team on multiple scoring drives, putting them in position to nearly mount an improbable comeback.
McCarthy finished his one-quarter debut completing 11 of his 21 pass attempts for 243 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while also leading the team with 26 rushing yards. Superstar wide receiver Malik Nabers shared his reaction to McCarthy's debut postgame. "I think he did a great job.
Going out there and doing a great job and delivering the football, I think we have to give him credit for that," Nabers said. Nabers notched his third straight monster performance on Sunday, reeling in 12 catches for 165 yards. Giants head coach John Harbaugh has not publicly announced who will start at the quarterback position in next Sunday's Week 7 matchup against the Houston Texans.
